There's nothing worse than paying for a small business website and finding out you can't easily update it or make changes as your business grows. Keeping your website current and constantly evolving shows visitors that you are attentive to their user experience and wish to provide up-to-date information. Search engines love fresh content, and if you provide it, they will come.
You've heard the word "blog", but do you really know what it is? A blog is a section of your website (or even a separate site altogether) that gets frequently updated with current information pertaining to your business. Blogs are a great way to keep visitors informed of new products, services and press releases.
There are a variety of easy ways to create a blog including WordPress, Blogger, Typepad, and Livejournal. Contact us for more information on setting up your blog.
Another way to keep your website updated is to use a content management system. There are literally hundreds available and each has it's own learning curve. The website is usually based on a template, with the content sections being driven by a database. The site owner logs in and makes changes at will, with the changes immediately available on the site.
We find that most CMS's are overkill for normal website updates, and we recommend Adobe Contribute CS3 to our clients wishing to update their sites by themselves. Contribute allows you to download pages from your website server, make changes and then "post" or send them back to the server. You can save them for review or make them live immediately. The benefit of using Contribute is it works seamlessly with our websites. There are certain areas that are "off limits" to changes, especially for dynamic PHP/MySql websites, and Contribute prevents these areas from being altered.
If you just need someone reliable to make changes to your website, we can do it. From wholesale content changes to updating photos and products, we can perform the edits you need quickly and affordably, either by an hourly rate or via a maintenance contract.
